Blogger’s Quilt Festival – Adalida

Posted on: October 26, 2012

Welcome to my blog and my entry in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival.

The quilt is called “Adalida” and the cat is Rion. He wanted to help me with my photo taking this morning. Unfortunately, it’s a little overcast here, so the pictures are a little dull.

The blocks in this quilt were made for me in a block exchange group I was part of for 3 years. The center block was my contribution.

Over the next 9 months, each of the ladies in the group made a 12 inch square block that met my requirements, using fabrics that I provided, or from their own stash. My only real request was that they use purple, green, and gold in their blocks.

The four corner blocks and the sashing I added during a retreat weekend. I had a long-armer quilt it for me.

I know that I was the first one in the group to have a completed quilt, and I may still be the only one 4 years later to have one! I do have blocks for 2 other quilts from the same group…well, the members changed up a little in the 3rd year…but, they are in my WIP closet. One has turquoise and brown blocks and the other has batik New York Beauty blocks.

I wanted something “New Orleans-y” for the name; hence “Adalida” the old George Strait song about a pretty little Cajun queen.

Quilt Stats:

Approx. 57″ square
Paper piecing, traditional piecing
Quilted by Mike Taylor
Best Category – group quilt or wall quilt

Thank you, once again, to Amy and her wonderful sponsors. Head on over and look at some more quilts.
